This, the latest offering from Marian Keyes, author of other best-sellers such as Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married - which was adapted for TV - Watermelon, Rachel's Holiday and Last Chance Saloon.
On the face of it Keyes is one of those authors who seems to have jumped on the 30-and-single bandwagon in the wake of Bridget Jones and all her sisters. Unlike some of the other titles Keyes has tacked some gritty subjects in past books, notably drug addiction in Rachel's Holiday.
Sushi for Beginners uses the frothy backdrop of a woman's magazine in Dublin, it tackles both depression and betrayal. It may sound heavy but the plot is fast-moving enough not to feel leaden.
Part of the reason it works is because of the lively cast of characters including work-obsessed magazine editor Lisa Edwards, features writer Ashling Kennedy - an award-wining worrier - and striking looking but unhappily married Clodagh Kelly, Ashling's best friend.
On the male front there is also dishevelled and moody magazine boss Jack Devine who turns out to be a Prince Charming for one woman - but Keyes manages to keep the reader guessing for long enough which one.
