Lisa Edwards was the fashion editor of the UK's number one best-selling magazine Elle. When her bosses called her to a meeting Lisa thought she was going to fulfil her ultimate ambition and become the editor of the Elle edition in the USA. But her bosses had other plans for her.

They offered her the chance to start up a new magazine called Colleen in Ireland. Lisa shocked by what she considered a demotion is determined to make a success of the new project.

Lisa's second in command Ashling Kennedy who was sacked from her previous job on the Irish woman's weekly for giving wrong advice on how to get a stain out of a carpet which led to the paper being sued.

Ashling cannot believe her luck that she has been given a second chance, and with the help of her Buddha doll, tarot cards lucky charms and stones is also determined to be a success.

Ashling does not realise what a domineering, control freak her new boss is. Added to the worries of her new job is her concerns about her personal life.

Her stand-up comedian boyfriend Marcus needs constantly reassurance how funny he is and that he is the best comedian on the circuit.

Ashling's best friend Clodagh lives Ashley's ideal life with a handsome husband and two adorable children but Clodagh is not content and is about to betray Ashling in the worst possible way.

The one thing that unites both Lisa and Ashling is they both share the same goal in creating a success with Colleen and getting the magazine onto the news-stands on time.

Marian Keyes deserves the title of Britain's brightest young female artist as Sushi for Beginners is funny, sad and heart-warming and a fantastic read.
