Heat

Don't you just hate Marian Keyes? No? Well, we do. Why? Because reviewing her books is such a bloody chore. No, no, don't get your knickers in a twist; let us explain. It's just that her books are so fabulously brilliant that it makes writing about them all the more difficult. We'd really rather just print a few quotes instead as that would be more than enough to convince you of this woman's genius. But we guess we'd better do <some> work... OK, so the plot. It's all about three women: Gemma, an events organiser from Dublin who copes with her parents' separation by writing hilarious stories about it; Lily, an author who 'stole' the love of Gemma's life and is now living in London with him and their baby daughter; and Jojo, Lily's determined literary agent who is having an affair with her married boss. We can't do justice to these characters in so few words, but we can tell you how much we loved them. In fact, we loved every single page of this story. It's the sort of book that makes you bubble up with happiness inside. Reading it is as heavenly as finishing it is hell. It's writing about it that's the pain in the butt.
